Bio
La’Maz Ray enters his first season at Buckhorn High School in 2025 as Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Offensive Line Coach, bringing 18 years of coaching experience and a proven track record of building offensive fronts. During the 2025 season Coach Ray was apart of a 7-4 team record, the most wins in a season at Buckhorn since 2007.
Before arriving at Buckhorn, Coach Ray spent four seasons (2021–2024) as Defensive Line Coach at Bob Jones High School, where his units were consistent - producing multiple defensive linemen that went on to play at the collegiate level.
From 2017–2020 he served as Offensive Line Coach at Mae Jemison High School, guiding the Jaguars through a successful four-year run. The 2017 Jaguars set a school record of 424 points in a single season - a feat that still stands today. That same team also posted the only playoff victory in school history.
Ray also made stops at Saraland High School (2015–2016), Alabama State University (2013–2014), and Booker T. Washington High School in Alabama (2007–2012).
As a player, Ray was a three-year letterman and two-time team captain on the offensive line at Alabama State University. He earned All-SWAC recognition and was named Preseason Division I-AA All-American. In high school he was a rare five-year letterman.
Coach Ray’s passion for developing young men in the trenches has made him one of the most respected offensive line coaches in the state.
